Post subject: [Installation] Best way to perform a clean (re)install

Note: Please see this entry for updated instructions that include using the All-in-One installer for MyEclipse.
The easiest way to do this is the following:
1) Download a fresh copy of the most recent GA release of Eclipse SDK, unzip it to a new location, e.g. C:\Eclipse.1GA
2) Download a fresh copy of the most recent GA release of MyEclipse, install it to a new location, e.g. C:\MyEclipse.0GA
* If you used the installer, point it at your new Eclipse install in the 3.1GA directory. If you used the manual install, follow the included instructions to finish the installation.
3) Start your old install of MyEclipse, use File > Export >Preferences to save all your settings to a file, then exit.
4) Start your new install of MyEclipse and use File > Import > Preferences to pull all those settings in.
5) Use File > Import > Existing Project to pull all your old projects into your new workspace.
* If you were not upgrading major versions and there is no problem with your workspace, you can simply reuse the existing workspace by adding -clean to your command line arguments for MyEclipse and selecting it when Eclipse starts up.
6) OPTIONAL: After a sufficient time has passed that you feel comforatable that the reinstall worked, you can erase your old Eclipse/MyEclipse directories. BE CAREFUL not to erase a workspace dir that is in use.
